A joint venture between GDL & Chakiat Groupby Press Release on 2012-05-14
The container freight station (CFS) of Gateway Distriparks (Kerala) Ltd (GDKL), a 60 per cent subsidiary of Gateway Distriparks Ltd (GDL), commenced operations here on May 8. It handled its first export container through the Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT).
The GDKL CFS and the ICTT (operated by DP World) are expected to facilitate and boost ex-im trade in the region.
Located opposite the ICTT, the CFS, spread across 6.5 acres, has warehousing and container storage facilities, besides a separate area for Customs inspection of cargo on wheels. These combined facilities, along with the CFS' proximity to the ICTT, would help in lowering transaction costs for the ex-im trade, highlighted a release.
GDKL owns another 22 acres at Kalamasserry, which will be developed in the next phase.
GDKL, incorporated in 2006, is a 60:40 joint venture between GDL and the Chakiat Group. GDL is one of the largest players in container logistics in India with CFSs in Mumbai, Chennai, Vizag and now Kochi, and rail-linked inland container depots (ICDs) near Gurgaon (NCR), Ludhiana and Faridabad.
Chakiat, a well-established business group, has been in shipping and related activities since 1952. It is also a shareholder in the ICTT.
